About the indicator

CO2 emissions adjusted for international trade: emissions embedded in imported goods are added to production-based emissions, and emissions embedded in exports are subtracted. It shows the carbon footprint of a country's consumption. For developed importers this indicator runs noticeably above production-based emissions; for exporters of manufactured goods, below.

Important: The series is shorter than the production-based one: the calculation requires multi-region input-output tables and is available from about 1990 onward.
